CMS has awarded five new Medicare Recovery Audit Contractors (RAC) contracts. Three contractors will perform post-payment review of Part A and B Medicare fee-for-service claims for all provider types other than home health/hospice and Durable Medical Equipment, Prosthetics, Orthotics and Supplies (DMEPOS).

The new RAC for Kansas is now Cotiviti, LLC covering the new Region 2 which includes a total of 14 states and on March 6, CMS gave approval for Cotiviti to begin audit activity for Region 2. The original Medicare FFS RACs, HealthDataInsights, will be under contract with CMS until 2018 for administrative purposes. Providers may still receive correspondence related to claims adjusted under the original RAC contracts.
